Since being elected in July Margaret Mullane MP has been in constant communication with stakeholders pressing for the delivery of Beam Park station.
After years of campaigning and pressure from the Labour MP for Dagenham and Rainham and local Labour Councillors, confirmation was received this week that the GLA are “focused on delivering the station at pace”.
Despite previous discussions outlining the need for a new business case for the station, London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport, Seb Dance, has stated that the GLA will “continue to use the existing business case” to avoid further delay of the station’s delivery.
Margaret Mullane MP commented: “After years of being pushed from pillar to post by stakeholders it finally looks like the station is on track for delivery. One of my pledges at the election was to ensure that the Department for Transport, GLA and c2c made good on the promise of a new station, which was one of the key selling points advertised by developers to new homeowners at Beam Park.
“Whilst no timeline has been given for the construction of Beam Park station, we now have confirmation in writing that the GLA are working diligently to make this a reality.
“This success owes not only to the political will of Labour representatives in Dagenham and Rainham, but to the community in Beam Park who have pursued this outcome since they moved into the area. There is still more work to do and as the Member of Parliament I will continue to keep pressure on all stakeholders until the first passenger boards a train at Beam Park station.”
The letter from the Mayor’s office dated 4 November 2024 outlines that a timetable and performance analysis has been completed and reviewed by stakeholders, and the GLA has begun scoping out the next steps for the project alongside Network Rail. Due to the recent cyber-attack on Transport for London there has been a delay to the demand and revenue modelling, but this is expected to be completed in early 2025.
In the coming weeks and months Margaret Mullane MP will continue to meet with stakeholders and will provide updates to residents as the project progresses.
