Margaret Mullane, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has added her support to calls for improvements to mental health services for children and young people.
Margaret said “There is no more important indicator of the state of a country than the wellbeing of its children. The Tory Government has failed our children. Mental health services for children and young people is a particular area of concern. Recent years have seen an alarming increase in the number of young people facing mental health problems
Current mental health legislation and services are in urgent need of reform, it’s outdated and unfit for purpose.”
Margaret gave her commitment that Labour will tackle the crisis in children and young people’s mental health services by:
Cutting waiting lists for mental health services by recruiting thousands more staff
Introducing specialist mental health support for children and young people in every school
Delivering an open access children and young people’s mental health hub for every community
Margaret added: "Labour has fully costed the plan and will pay for these improvements by abolishing tax loopholes for private equity fund managers and tax breaks for private schools. Providing accessible mental health support to young people before they reach crisis makes complete sense and prevents long term problems.”
