Jon Cruddas MP's office, where Margaret is Office Manager, was recently contacted by many concerned constituents regarding problems with their Dart Charge accounts for the Dartford Thames Crossing.
Motorists who regularly use this river crossing set up a Dart Account in order to pay the toll charges. The company that operates the system changed in late July, but unfortunately there was inadequate notification to account holders of the change over. This has caused problems for motorists who needed to contact the new company to revalidate their accounts.
When they tried to go online to complete this the system was down. They were directed to a phone line but when they attempted to get through they found themselves on a never ending queue. As a result, a number of motorists with accounts may receive fines.
Jon Cruddas has written to the Government Minister to ask him to intervene with the company and make sure that motorists with Dart Accounts are not fined due to failings of this company.
Margaret has commented "This issue is down to poor administration. Constituents have tried to comply. With a scheme this far-reaching there should have been a grace period for drivers. The MP's office has raised this with the Minister for Transport asking for all fines to be dropped where this error has occurred.
Please come to us if you have been affected and we will be more than happy to help."
The payment deadline for the tolls has now been extended in response to the problem for those who use the crossing between 27 July and 14 August.
