I have seen the damage done to families across Dagenham and Rainham from the past 14 years of Tory failure. We only have to ask ourselves the question, am I better off today than I was before to know the depth of the Tories’ failure.
Whether its prices for your essentials in the shops, your energy bills or your housing costs, mortgage repayments or rent – the Tory mishandling of the economy has driven many families to the edge. 4th July gives us the chance to turn the page and reject the misery of austerity and start to rebuild family financial security.
One of the first steps is to tackle sky high energy bills by creating Great British Energy, generating energy from clean renewable sources. A company that is publicly owned where the profits don’t get eaten up in dividend payments to shareholders but instead mean our energy bills will be reduced.
My ambition for Dagenham and Rainham is to generate the local jobs you can raise a family on and help local businesses thrive. Labour’s plan to scrap the unfair Business Rates system will be a major boost for small businesses and shops and will reinvigorate our local high streets and town centres. I believe the future for Dagenham and Rainham is bright.
The relief I and others feel now that we are finally rid of the architects of disaster is widely felt and commented upon. Let us hope these Sons of the Norman Conquest never return to misgovernment ever again.
