Free breakfast clubs boost for local schools

Three local schools in the Dagenham and Rainham constituency are to become ‘early adopters’ in the Government’s national roll out of free breakfast clubs.

John Perry Primary, William Ford Church of England Junior and Robert Clack School of Science will all be able to offer free breakfast clubs from April to all children attending these schools. The three schools successfully applied to be in the first wave of 750 schools across England to provide this valuable service.

The clubs come alongside a raft of measures designed to cut the cost of living for families, including the commitment to significantly cut uniform costs through a cap on branded items and complement the government-funded childcare.

Research shows that 87% of parents think breakfast clubs are a good chance for children to socialise, and two thirds recognise the value of clubs providing educational activities. Breakfast clubs have been shown to boost children’s reading, writing, and maths.

Margaret said “This is a great initiative from the Labour Government and I am so pleased that the children attending these three local schools will benefit from April. The fact that the breakfasts are free will help put up to £450 a year back in local parents’ pockets.

Not only that, but the 30 minutes of free childcare, every day, will help to support parents getting into work.

Of course, this is just the start. The Government’s funded programme means that all primary school children in England will get to benefit.”
