This week Margaret Mullane, selected to stand for Labour at the next General Election, has launched a petition alongside business owners in Elm Park calling for electric vehicle charging points.
Margaret has spoken to a number of the local businesses in recent weeks to see what they think is needed to improve the prospects of Elm Park shopping parades. Margaret explained that “local shops and small businesses are the lifeblood for communities. I want local highstreets, small businesses, and family run companies across Dagenham and Rainham to thrive. It’s good for the local economy, good for jobs and good for the whole area.”
One of the key issues raised by businesses was the need for kerbside electric vehicle charging points at both Station and Tadworth Parade, and on nearby roads. The feeling was that as electric vehicles become more popular with residents, it will be beneficial for local car parking areas to have allocated kerbside charging points, giving people another reason to visit the shopping parades.
Margaret Mullane said: “Over the coming weeks we will be visiting local businesses with a petition calling on Havering Council to work with a delivery partner to install electric vehicle charging points. There is an onus on local authorities to ensure they have the infrastructure to support residents needs, and the hope is that where we have identified a need in Elm Park the council will respond favourably to help the businesses in their borough thrive.”
Once the petition is complete Margaret plans to submit it to Havering Council in person alongside local business owners.
