Labour PPC calls for improvements to Rainham station

Margaret Mullane’s local action team members have contacted c2c to call for an improvement to the facilities at Rainham station.

Fay Hough and Sue Watson noted that unlike many other stations at Rainham there is no defibrillator present. These appliances can be life saving for a person suffering a heart attack. Fay and Sue also drew attention to the lack of any electric vehicle (EV) charging points in the station car park.

c2c quickly responded to the request to say that whilst they were not aware of any current plans for EV charging points they have raised this with their commercial team and promised to come back on this. They also agreed that defibrillators are beneficial to host at stations to support local communities and confirmed that they have a number of defibrillators at their stations already. They went on to say that they will carry out a check at Rainham would be very happy to work together to install one at the station.

Margaret and her action team have also taken up a safety issue with Havering Council and Network Rail. The pedestrian ramp crossing the Fenchurch St to Southend rail lines is poorly lit due to a number of the lamps not working leaving the footbridge across the tracks in darkness.

Margaret Mullane commented “Rainham station is so well used and improving the safety of commuters and other passengers is vital. I am really pleased with the quick response from c2c and hope that both Network Rail and Havering Council react in a similar way. We need to encourage people to use public transport and measures such as these, albeit in a small way, will help locally.”
