Margaret Mullane and her Rainham Labour action team members, Fay Hough and Sue Watson, have been pressing c2c and Network Rail to deal with issues around Rainham station that are of concern to local residents and passengers.
Fay and Sue contacted c2c concerning heavy littering and lack of maintenance of the waste ground to the side of the London bound platform at the station. They also reported problems being encountered by drivers to the station coming to drop off or collect people.
In a reply received from c2c they point out that Network Rail is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the waste ground and that they will speak with them about the issue of littering, and also to understand how often and when litter and vegetation will be cleared from the area.
c2c went on to address the parking issue and said that they hadn’t been aware of the problem relating to parking or picking-up/dropping off at the station and are to review the current setup (especially during peak times) and to see what changes could potentially be introduced to ease the situation and remove the risks posed by dangerous parking.
In a further Rainham station related issue, Margaret and her team had contacted Havering Council concerning two out of commission street lights either side of pedestrian footbridge at the station. The Council has now got back to Margaret to say this has been referred to the Street Lighting team to attend to.
Margaret said “These issues really matter and I am pleased that c2c and Havering Council have made clear that they will act. Lighting those pedestrian areas around the station is matter of public safety and trying to sort out the drop off / picking-up parking issue at the station will be a real benefit.”
