The long awaited carriageway resurfacing works to Briscoe Road Rainham, which had commenced, have been paused by Havering Council and its contractor.
Dagenham and Rainham MP, Margaret Mullane, had called upon the Council to bring forward the works to relieve the nuisance and damage to homes from heavy traffic vibration in the roads off Upminster Road North. She was delighted when the Council recently informed her that the works would go ahead. Resurfacing of a section of Briscoe Road had begun but when the contractor pulled off the site, local residents got in touch with Margaret to find out what has happened.
Margaret said “As soon as the residents contacted me I got in touch with Havering to check what had happened.
I was told by the Council that work started on the section of road on Monday 2 June but for some reason the contractor hadn’t anticipated the disruption to traffic flows that would result given that the school half term break had just ended. I was also told that in the short time the contractor was working, progress on breaking up and removing the damaged road surface was slow. So in the circumstances the contractor and Council decided to pause work and resume and finish the job in this year’s school summer holidays.”
Margaret added “Residents will be relieved to know that the resurfacing will be completed and the long suffering will come to an end.
I also pressed the Council on the safety of the road and have been assured that the site will be left in a safe condition and no areas will be left in a temporary state.
As soon as I have the exact dates of when the work will restart, I will let the residents who have been in touch with me know.”
