Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, alongside Jon Cruddas MP, welcomed Louise Haigh MP Shadow Secretary of State for Transport to the site of the promised Beam Park station today (18.04.2023).
This is a stepping up of Labour’s campaign for the government to remove its block on the Beam Park station project. The station has planning consent and is fully funded but has been at the centre of a controversy, where the Department for Transport have blocked delivery.
Margaret commented “Residents at Beam Park bought homes on the explicit promise that there would be a new station, 20 minutes from Fenchurch Street. These false promises have put 2,000 new homes and hundreds of jobs for local people on hold and at risk. The Tory government has failed our area, so it falls to Labour in Dagenham and Rainham to pick up the pieces, and we are determined to deliver for local people. It was important to get Louise Haigh here today because in a matter of months she could be the Secretary of State for Transport in a Labour government.”
