Margaret Mullane MP for Dagenham and Rainham, in the last week met with Police officers and Coop managers at the Mungo Park Road store to put together an action plan to tackle shoplifting.
Margaret commented “This was a very positive meeting with real commitment to stop prolific shoplifting and bring the criminals to justice. Processes are being put in place to improve reporting and communications that I am sure will bring results.
We heard disturbing accounts of violent threats to staff from gangs of shoplifters. I am confident that real progress can be made with joint work from the local Police, staff at the store and the community. I will be continuing to work with the Police and shops across Dagenham and Rainham to stamp out shoplifting and violence to shop staff.
I am a member of the House of Commons Home Affairs Select Committee and will ensure that the issue of shoplifting is highlighted.”
