Why I'm standing to be our next Labour MP

WORKING TOGETHER
It is an honour to represent where you live. To be the Labour voice for our community. To be the helping hand to your neighbours when they need a little bit of help.
It was my privilege to do this as our Labour & Co-operative MP – standing up for us and our values in Stoke-on-Trent and in Westminster.
Every time I stood up in the House of Commons, I was so proud to speak for the people of our city.
My job was to be Stoke-on-Trent’s voice in Westminster - to speak truth to power. To deliver for the people of our city.
As our MP my priorities were always the people of Stoke-on-Trent and delivering for our city - from campaigning for decent homes, better public services, improvements to education and for more jobs and more investment into our city and to supporting self-determination for the people of Kashmir, campaigning against modern slavery.

OUR MISSION
WINNING TOGETHER
In 2017, against all odds, by working together we beat UKIP. We sent their politics of hate packing from our city. In 2019, we campaigned together in every community, to try and hold off against the Conservative wave which decimated our industrial heartlands and, because of our efforts, we nearly held on - beating the national swing - but it wasn't enough to stop Jo Gideon becoming our MP.
But our only goal now is to make sure that she is a one term MP. And that we see those amazing words on election night - LABOUR GAIN, Stoke-on-Trent Central.
Our party is a broad church and it's going to take every part of our movement to get the job done at the next election. I am proud to be a former trade union officer, to be an active co-operator and lifelong Labour Party activist and you know that I am not afraid of hard work – but to beat the Tories in Stoke-on-Trent, we need to work together and campaign for every vote.
For the last 2 and half years we have been represented by an MP who voted against our values and the best interests of our city. She voted against Free School Meals for our children; blocked plans for extra neighbourhood police officers; backed the National Insurance tax hike and was unapologetic about the cuts to Universal Credit.
Her voting record confirms everything we know about the Conservatives and every reason why we need to beat them at the General Election and deliver a Labour Government.
I’m asking for your support, to be our next Labour MP, because our city deserves so much better than what we currently have and working together we will win and Stoke-on-Trent Central once again will have a Labour voice, our City will have a Labour Council and our country a Labour Government.
