Margaret Mullane MP was contacted by Elm Park residents concerned about large quantities of rubbish accumulating on the approaches to the District Line station at Elm Park.
Margaret’s team immediately took up the issue with Havering Council and forwarded photos showing the rubbish and litter along The Broadway close by the station. Havering was asked to send a clean up team to the area and to let the MP know that this will be carried out so that the local residents can be assured of the action.
The Council has now got back to Margaret to confirm that the local street cleansing team has been tasked with clearing up the mess.
Margaret said “It is so important that our town centres and shopping areas are kept tidy to encourage people to come and shop locally to support our businesses.
In the course of a recent debate in Parliament that I took part in on the issue of introducing a bottle deposit return scheme, evidence was given about the blight littering has on an area and the depressing impact this can have on local residents.
I am pleased that the Council has reacted positively and trust that they will maintain the area in a good condition.”
