Jon Cruddas MP's office, where Margaret is Office Manager, was recently contacted by Royal Mail staff members and CWU members in connection with a decision taken by Royal Mail which has resulted in 80 members of staff being declared supernumerary. This has caused great anxiety for those staff facing considerable uncertainty over their future employment with the organisation.
Margaret shares Jon's concern both about the impact on those members, a number of whom they believe have worked for Royal Mail for many years and also on the ability of Royal Mail to complete deliveries to homes and businesses in Dagenham & Rainham.
Jon Cruddas has written to the CEO of Royal Mail, Simon Thompson, asking for an explanation for this action and for him to confirm that there will be full and open negotiations with CWU officers on the future employment arrangements for those 80 staff members.
Margaret commented "I am very concerned to hear about these actions that are being taken by Royal Mail. The outstanding staff of the Royal Mail deserve security in their roles, especially in our current economic climate. The MPs Office has raised these concerns to the CEO of Royal Mail urging dialogue to occur so a resolution can be found.
Please come to us if you have been affected by this and we will do everything we can to help."
